Philip Arketa, SSgt. USAF (Retired)

Philip Arketa, a resident of Mount Clemens, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the age of 82.

He was born November 3, 1934, in Juneau, Alaska.

On December 29, 1959, in Fukuoka, Japan, he was united in marriage to the former Toshiko Nagae. Together they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary.

Mr. Arketa served in the United States Air Force retiring after 21 years. His military career spanned the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After his return to civilian life, he was employed at Chrysler Corporation at the Hamtramck Assembly Plant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Clemens and was a life member of VFW Post #1794. An all-round outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and watching sports.

He is survived by his wife Toshiko, daughters, Patricia, Elizabeth (Brian), and Audrey, five grandchildren, Gabriel, Jean-Paul, Toshiko, Kenzo and Zachary as well as three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Philip.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main, Mount Clemens, MI. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3,2016,6 at 11:00 am (instate at 10:00 am) at First United Methodist Church, 57 Southbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens, Michigan with the Rev. Mary McInnes officiating.

Philip served a tour in the Vietnam War with the USAF 20th SOS “Green Hornets” as a UH-1N helicopter crew chief in the 1971 time frame.
