The memorial service for Billy Joe Avery, 80 year-old Enid resident, will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00AM in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Andrew Long will officiate. There will be a private burial of cremains at a later date.

Joe was born September 9, 1936 in Douglas, Oklahoma to William and Bertha (Sattler) Avery and died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. He attended local schools and attended Enid High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school, where he served as a firefighter and on the helicopter rescue squad. While stationed in Maine he was awarded a commendation for extinguishing a fire at great risk to his life.

After his service he owned and operated Avery’s Formica and Tile Company here in Enid. He ran the business for over sixty years. On July 1, 1977 he married Diane Shupack at the home of her parents in Enid, where the couple made their home.

He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Diane, of the home, three children; Charles Todd Avery and wife Julie of Chula Vista, CA., Lauri Jo and husband Daniel Stotts of Wichita, KS, and Andrea Kerstine and husband Griff of Atlanta, GA. 8 grandchildren; Todd, Andrew, Sabina, Chelsi, Shane, Avery, Riley, and Max. Three great-grandchildren; Kaleb, Sloan, and Camila. A sister, Karen and husband Teddy Crawford of Enid, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Albert, nephew, Teddy S. Crawford JR. and his beloved dog “Pete”.

Memorials may be made to either Enid SPCA or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
