Guy Robert Benoit, USAF

February 18, 1929 – January 22, 2018

OLEAN – Guy Robert Benoit, of 7 Edwards Court, passed away Monday (Jan. 22, 2018) at Buffalo General Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1929, in Aldenville, Mass., he was a son of Moises and Regina Dextrose Benoit. In 1999, after the passing of his first wife of 36 years, Muriel Hamel Benoit, he married Judith Tillman, in Springfield, Mass., who survives.

Mr. Benoit was a graduate of St. Jerome High School in Holyoke, Mass. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1957, and then re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962. While in the military, he loved flying helicopters. He was a member of St. John’s Church in Olean, and a member of the St. Bonaventure Secular Franciscan Fraternity. In his free time, he loved flying small airplanes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepson, Jacques (Maureen) Benoit of Massachusetts; a stepdaughter, Carol (Martin) Dyer of Massachusetts; a niece, Annemarie Sweeney of Maine; a nephew, Peter (Liz) Benoit of Virginia; three step-grandchildren, Danielle, Monique and Nathan; three nieces, Christine, Patrice and Debbie; and a dear cousin, E. Kevin (Claire) McSweeney.

He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.

Friends will be received from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday (Jan. 29, 2018) at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., at which time a prayer service will begin. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Olean. Father Patrick Melfi, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
