Bruce C. Bowden, Lt. Col, USAF-Ret. December 13, 1928-April 17, 2015 , 86, of Calabash, NC, died on April 17, 2015.

He was born on December 13, 1928, and raised in Waltham, MA. He retired as a pilot from the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and eleven air medals. He had a lifelong interest in trains and in particular modeling, and for over 30 years co-edited a modeling newsletter, The Modelers Notes. He wrote many construction articles for the Boston and Maine Rail Road Historical Society. After retiring from the Air Force in 1971, he had a tax accounting business.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Zilpha Bowden of Waltham, MA, and a sister Janesse Hoaglund, of Shrewsbury, MA. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stewart Bowden. Four daughters: Bonnie Miller of Frisco, TX; Diana Guidry (Randy) of Cooper City, FL; Robin Floyd (Steve) of Fairmont, NC; Vicki White (David) of Dacula, GA. One son: Steven Bowden (Carol) of Conyers, GA. Two stepsons: Doug Stewart (Michelle) of Hampton, GA, and Joe Stewart (Debbie) of Powder Springs, GA. Thirteen grandchildren: Michelle Miller Mathis, Jeff Miller, Ashley Guidry Resta, Whitney Guidry, Beau Guidry, Scott Floyd, Sherry White, Stephanie Bowden, Emily Bowden, Jeremy Stewart, Jordan Stewart, Brittany Stewart and Brandon Stewart. Eight great grandchildren: Jacob, Sam, Alex, Luke, Cassie, Annie, Nolan and Charlotte. And also, several cousins, nephews, nieces and many wonderful friends.

A memorial service will be at Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach at 1:00pm on Monday, April 20, 2015, with a reception afterward in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seaside United Methodist Church, 1300 Seaside Rd, Sunset Beach, NC 28468.

Inurnment will be at a later date in First Parish Church Cemetery, York, ME with military honors.
