Travis Dale Brown, 73, of Jordan Drive, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at 12:16 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Brown retired from the military, serving 5 years with the U.S. Marine Corps and 15 years with the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed at Rhoades Aviation for the past 17 years as Director of Operations and as a pilot. He was a member of the American Legion, the Confederate Air Force in Texas and several pilot organizations.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to time-of-service Sunday at the funeral home.
Military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the Brown family, and a video tribute may be viewed at www.barkesweaverglick.com.
Born in Coody’s Bluff, OK, October 28, 1938, Mr. Brown was the son of Benjamin T. and Maude M. Brock Brown. He married Mary Villarreal on May 5, 1961.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Lisa (James) Deaton of Columbus and Benjamin T. (Pamela) Brown of Arizona; a sister, Susie Sargent of Southaven, MS; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Sonny and Rocky Brown.
