Lloyd L. Buchfinck Jr., Major, USAF (Retired)
December 25, 1941 – January 7, 2010
Lloyd L. Buchfinck Jr., 68, of Columbus, completed his journey through Alzheimer’s disease on January 7, 2010 at the Columbus Alzheimer Care Center.
Lloyd was born December 25, 1941 in Hyannis, NE to Lloyd L Buchfinck Sr. and Glenna Hodges Buchfinck. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother John “Jack” Buchfinck.
Lloyd graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of West Florida (receiving an honors degree in history). He was a retired Major, with 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Viet Nam veteran and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; member of Northwest Christian Church.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Ann Kaltenbach Buchfinck; daughter, Niki (Michael) Buchfinck Jarrett of NV; son, Donn L. Buchfinck of CA; four grandchildren; step-children, Aaron T. Smith and Amy D. (Jose) Smith-Gonzales; mother-in-law, Virginia Kaltenbach; and sister-in-law, Jill Buchfinck of Mullen, NE.
A service celebrating Lloyd’s life will be held at Northwest Christian Church, 1340 Fishinger Rd., 11 a.m., Thursday, with Rev. Cindy Adcock and Pastor Jeff Wheeler officiating. One hour prior to the service, the family will welcome friends. Interment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Columbus Alzheimer Care Center, Odyssey Healthcare, the Columbus Alzheimer’s Association and the Gerlach Adult Day Program.
