Robert L. Burkhart Jr., USAF (Retired)

Robert Leroy Burkhart Jr., age 81 of Macomb Township, Michigan, passed in his home on January 13, 2024. He was born in Pittsburg, PA on July 1, 1942, to the late Robert Sr. and Mary Burkhart, and 21 years later in Warren, MI, married his beloved wife, Beverly. Together they have spent over 60 years of marriage.
A proud United States Military serviceman and veteran, Robert enlisted in the Air Force in 1961 and served his country initially as an aircraft mechanic. Eventually he trained to become a flight engineer on the HH-3 “Jolly Green Giant” helicopter for the 305th Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base until its inactivation in 1992. Upon finishing his service there, he then moved to the US Army TACOM base for nearly two decades, finally retiring in 2009.
Robert traveled all over the United States, along with many other parts of the world including Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and South America. He could often be found working in the garage with his beloved All-American 1969 Chevelle.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Beverly, children Cindy (Leonard) Kuzminski and Greg (Nicole) Burkhart, grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Alyssa, and Brandon, great-grandsons Elijah and William, and sisters Linda Sue Childers and Carolyne Gesullo. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Robert “Bobby” Burkhart and brother Anthony “Butch” Burkhart.
Visitation will be held in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mt. Clemens on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon, with a funeral service beginning at noon with the Rev. William Lawrence officiating. Immediately following services, Robert will be laid to rest at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Twp.
