Jolly Green Giant Crashes in Refuge But Crew Unhurt
An Air Force CH-3C “Jolly Green Giant” helicopter crashed landed in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Monday afternoon, but crew members walked away unhurt.
The jet-powered helicopter was on a routine training mission from Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Tex., when the crashed occurred.
The 2 p.m. crash was described as a “hard landing” sustaining medium damage. The craft could not be flown back to Sheppard, however, repair crews will remove the copter today, officials said.
