Obituary

Major (Ret.) Hugh L. Crabtree (77) passed away on January 10, 2021 at Twin Cities Hospital, Niceville, FL. He was the husband of fifty one years to Jacqueline B. Crabtree.

Born on March 1, 1943 in Abingdon, Virginia, Hugh was the son of Homer and Lou Crabtree. He graduated from Virginia Tech (1964) as a member of the Corps of Cadets. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 22 years. While in the USAF, Hugh flew B52s, as well as various rotary wing aircraft and completed several missions in the Vietnam War. Also while serving, he completed his Master’s Degree in Management from Webster College, Missouri. After his retirement from the USAF, Hugh started his second career at ERA Aviation’s, where he flew helicopters for twenty years.

Hugh was a devoted family man who leaves a legacy of love behind. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline B. Crabtree; daughter Virginia Crabtree Lambert (Wes); son Dale Richard Mead (Sheryll); son Curtis Dean Mead (Melissa); sister Bonnie Crabtree Sitz; brother Jerome Eugene Crabtree (Eloise); 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Amanda Crabtree Titze; brother George C. Crabtree; and sister Sarah Crabtree Taylor.

An Internment of Ashes service will be held this summer in Abingdon, Virginia.
