Robert E. Dowdy Sr., 70, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dowdy was born March 1, 1933, in Hollywood, Fla., to Carl and Lena Oliver Dowdy.
From 1957 to 1978, he was married to Ann Hubbard, the mother of his children. He married Carol Jean Brogdon on Oct. 20, 1978, in Durant, Okla.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years as a jet pilot, helicopter pilot and instructor pilot. He owned the Wichita Falls Tent & Awning Company and then worked for Aero Space Technology in Fort Worth for 20 years until his 1997 retirement in Granbury.

Survivors: Wife, Carol Dowdy of Granbury; son, Robert E. Dowdy Jr. of Gastonia, N.C.; daughters, Dee Ann Crown and husband, George, of Sugarland, Texas, Susan Standifer and Carol Dodd and husband, Keven, all of Wichita Falls, Texas; stepchildren, Melody Askins and husband, Alan, of Fort Worth, T.J. Raif and wife, Jennifer, of Fort Worth and Barry Raif of Azle, Texas; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; mother, Lena O. Barnhill of Valdosta, Ga.; sisters, Carlene Candreia and husband, Barry, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lovohne Orenstein and husband, Jack, of Valdosta, Ga.
