Frederick C. Faust, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Retired)

June 08, 1920 – November 01, 2007

Frederick Cash Faust, age 87, retired Lt. Col. U.S. Air Force, peacefully passed away November 1, 2007, in Kansas City. He was born on June 8, 1920, in Kansas City, Kansas.

He attended Welborn Grade School and graduated from Washington High School and Kansas City Junior College. He was a member of the Welborn Community Church. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942, leading to a distinguished 28-year career as a highly decorated Command Pilot with 10,000 flying hours. He piloted A-20 attack bombers in 73 missions in World War II in the Southwest pacific theatre. He flew dangerous rescue helicopter missions in Korea and participated in the subsequent peace talks. He flew 102 rescue chopper missions in the Vietnam War, bravely saving countless lives. Col. Faust was awarded 22 medals and commendations for bravery, including the Silver Star for gallantry in action in Vietnam. He was honored to be a helicopter pilot for many of our country’s highest elected dignitaries including Hubert Humphrey, Spiro Agnew and Richard Nixon. His final duty was Commander of the helicopter unit at Patrick AFB, Florida which supported the Apollo Moon space shots. Col. Faust was a true American hero. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the Retired Officers Association.

He pursued his passion of restoring vintage cars as an active member of the Early Ford Club of America.

He leaves his wife Nell, of 47 years, and daughter Linda Press and husband Reinie of Calif., stepson Richard Butler and wife Yvonne of Kansas City, and stepdaughter Janice Dorfler and husband Ronald of Fla., as well as several grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138, (816) 523-1234 on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Burial service for family and close friends will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
