Robert Gerstenberg, 72, passed away peacefully Saturday July 1st, 2023. He is survived by: his loving wife Patti Gerstenberg, Daughter: Nikki Koth, Son :Boomer, Bonus Daughters: Toni (Billy) Strle, Sarah Matusiak, Bonus Son: James (Ashley) Zamot, Grandkids: Alisha, Konnor, Nikinzie, Zack, Hailey, Chloe, Juli, Ellie Rose, Jaxson Sister: Bonnie Ortega, Brother: Bill Gerstenberg, Cousin: Patsy McFadden, and other numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, Best Friends: Dan Rowbotham, Russell Gibson. Preceded in death by parents: Ethel Neal and Willard Gerstenberg, Brother: Randy Gerstenburg, and late wife Vicky Gerstenberg.
Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. Bob was a active member of: American Legion, VFW, Whiting Masonic Lodge #613, Griffith Masonic Lodge #735, and a Shriner. Bob was also the president of the Lake County Veteran Memorial Committee (Stoney Run Park), and a Lake County Chaplain.
Bob enjoyed and loved being around his family and taking the grandkids to the beach every time he got a chance. Bob had a passion for anything trains he shared with his family regardless if it was talking about, taking them to, or building with. He enjoyed taking long road trips with his wife Patti and son Boomer, taking the backroads and stopping at every attraction.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7th, 2023, at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm, services will follow.

Robert served in the Vietnam War as a HH-43F crew chief and helicopter mechanic with Det. 1 & 13, 38th ARRS and the 40th ARRS in the 1971-1972-time frame.
