Roger Malcolm Gibson, age 87, passed away, Friday, April 5, 2019 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Roger was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University and majored in music. During his four years in college, he played trombone in the OSU Marching Band.

His intention was to become a music teacher, but decided instead to join the U.S. Air Force and become a pilot. In 1953, he married the lovely Joanne Martin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, including a two-year stint in Vietnam flying cargo planes. He enjoyed traveling the world with the Air Force and was a member of the first Flight Detachment.

After retirement from the Air Force, he opened The Fix-It Shop, a small appliance repair shop in Lafayette, LA. In the 1980’s he was a member of the Pride of the Marsh, a comedic barbershop quartet. During his time with the quartet, they won the Southeast Regional Comedy Quartet championship. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling and planning reunions with his Air Force buddies. He was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with politics and current events.

After the death of his beloved wife, Joanne, he married Marie Smith in 2000.

Roger was preceded in death by wife, Joanne Martin Gibson and brother, William H. Gibson, Jr. He is survived by daughters, Dianne (David) Thomas of Bellevue, MI; Gail (Steven) Truxell of Arnaudville, LA; Karen (Kevin) Noga of Port Richey, FL; and son, Glenn (Susan) Gibson of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Kenneth W., Kaylene, and Dustin Gibson; Emlyn, Eleri, and Elayne Thomas; Kelsie Gibson, and John Noga.

Friends may call at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 2383 N. High, Columbus, on Tuesday, April 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 17th from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. where the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment Union Cemetery.
