Richard Charles Goven, Colonel, USAF (Retired)

Richard Charles Goven, Colonel, United States Air Force, Retired, was born on 25 November 1935 to Edward and Olive (Rieber) Goven in Turtle Lake, North Dakota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1957, Pilot Training Class 59-A, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces. During his 25 year Air Force Officer career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation with One Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, AF Longevity Service Ribbon with One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his Air Force retirement in 1983, Colonel Goven was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Seal Beach, California until his retirement in 2002.
He has resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Lois, since 2006. In Colorado Springs, he was a member of Sertoma, Woodmen Valley Chapter, and Order of Daedalians, Flight 11.
Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive, Colorado Springs at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Visitation will be one hour prior. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Burial will be in Turtle Lake, North Dakota on October 3, 2015. Goetz Funeral Home will be handling services in North Dakota.
