Mr. James D. “Bud” Green, age 83 of Anna, formerly of Wynne, AR, died at 11:49 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his home. He was born September 12, 1930 in Pachuta, Mississippi, the son of Edwin Moody and Olevia Risher Green. He married Nancy Carol Tillotson on November 26, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas.

James is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Green of Anna; two daughters, Sheryl (Bill) Ribbing of Anna, Cynthia Carol (Bruce) Martin of Florence, South Carolina; three sons, Kelly Green of Greenville, South Carolina, Ed Green (Felicia Hicks) of Lebanon, MO, Col. James S. (Katherine) Green of Wickliffe, KY; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.

Col. James Green was a faithful member of the Wynne Baptist Church in Wynne, AR for many years. He was an active member, leader and Sunday School Kindergarten Class. He also was the leader for the churches Awana Children’s group. He was a Rotary member and a dedicated member of the Gideon’s International. In 2011 he was named Cross County Distinguished Citizen of the Year and in 2012 was named Citizen of the Year for Wynne, AR.

Col. James Green served his country in the Air Force from 1953 to 1984. During his many years of service as an Air Force pilot he flew numerous aircraft including a C-141 Starlifter and HH-53 rescue helicopter in Vietnam.

During his military service Col. Green was an instructor pilot, quality control test pilot, transport pilot, rescue pilot, deputy base commander, base commander and director of inspection for the Military Airlift Command.

He received Meritorious Service Medal with three oak clusters, Legion of Merit Award, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver and one bronze star, as well as numerous other awards for service.

Upon Retirement Col. James Green moved to Wynne, AR. where he had lived since 1984. During his years in Wynne he served one term as Mayor, participated in the Cross County special workshop, and served as Vice President of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Cross County. He would regularly read to 3rd graders at Wynne Intermediate School

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard Team. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Cross County Single Parent Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 504 Wynne, AR. 72396. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
