HH-53C #68-10354 of the 6514th Test Sq. at Hill AFB, UT., settled with power and crashed short of LZ during a ridgeline approach at 9,500 feet, on Swasey Peak, 120 miles southwest of Hill AFB, UT. The helicopter was destroyed in post-crash fire. The crew and all passengers successfully egressed the aircraft without any significant injuries. No other details are available at this time.

Crew escapes injury in ‘copter’ crash
DELTA, Utah – Eight crew members escaped serious injury when their H-53 Air Force helicopter crash-landed and burned Thursday on a mountain in western Utah, a spokeswoman said.
The “Super-Jolly” helicopter went down the 9,500-foot level of Swasey Peak on the Utah Test and Training Range about 45 miles west of here, said Hill Air Force Base spokeswoman Valerie Chavez. The crew, from HAFB’s 6514th Test Squadron, was on a sight-survey mission.
