George M. Hittle III, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Retired)
August 06, 1942 – April 16, 2006
George M. Hittle III, 63, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend, passed away Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma cancer. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Hurst. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, George’s family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 3301 West Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
George M. Hittle III was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio. He proudly served our country as a career lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Before retiring in 1985, he flew 50-plus combat missions in Southeast Asia as a B-52 bomber aircraft commander. He also flew 150-plus helicopter air rescue missions in Southeast Asia. Col. Hittle was later assigned to the Pentagon as an Air Force operations officer. His last tour of duty was as the Air Force representative to the FAA’s Southwest Region of the United States.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, George worked for Flight Safety International, where he trained corporate pilots. He and his wife, Susan owned The Meat Shoppe in Hurst for several years. For the past eight years, George owned George M. Hittle Realtors.
He was predeceased by his father, George M. Hittle Jr., and mother, Gertrude E. Ehlers. Survivors: Wife of 21 years, Susan Hittle of Hurst; daughters, Holly Mays and husband, Terry, Heidi Able and husband, David, and Heather Faust and husband, Anthony, all of the Atlanta, Ga., area; stepson, Jason Kendall and wife, Amanda, of Dallas; grandchildren, Brittany, Bryan, Austin, Andrew, Garrett and Griffin; and brothers, Charles W. and John W. Hittle and their families of Sarasota, Fla.

Capt. Hittle served a Vietnam War tour as a HH-3E pilot with the 37th ARRS in the 1970-time frame.
