Joseph Jerome Hopperstad, MSgt., USAF (Retired)

September 16, 1933 – January 27, 2023

Joseph (89) of Milliken went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2023 (arrangements pending). He was a fighter to the end.

Joe was born on Sept. 16, 1933, in Enderlin, North Dakota to Joseph and Lillian Hopperstad. They moved to St. Xavier Montana two years later, and then to Genesee Park when he was 14. He attended Golden High School.

Joe enlisted as a Marine in 1951 and supported the Korean War effort as a Depot Supplies Specialist. After his Marine term, he enlisted in the Air Force and served 22 years before retiring in 1972 as Master Sergeant. Joe fought in Vietnam for two years as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. He was very proud to have served his country. He married Jeannette Crosby on May 3rd, 1958.

Upon military retirement they settled down in Golden. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Many summer trips were made to Grand Lake with his family. He was an avid follower of the Rockies, and seldom missed a game.

He was a devoted companion of his wife of 64 years. Joe is survived by his wife Jeannette; sons John (Kathy) Salt Lake City, James (Yvette) Longmont, and Jesse (Lori) Castle Pines; 10 Grandchildren and (2) Sisters: Barbara Donaho (Gary) Littleton, and Gail Dudgeon (Denver).
