Robert James Kavanagh, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Retired)

Lt. Col. Robert James Kavanagh, USAF (Ret.), age 88, of San Antonio, TX., passed away May 11, 2008.
He was born December 8, 1919, in New York, New York, to the late James and Agnes Kavanagh.
He was in the US Air Force for 29 years and proudly served during WW II and Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving as a lead B-17 pilot and flew 50 combat missions over Europe. Robert received a 2nd Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star during Vietnam while serving as a helicopter rescue pilot.
After retiring from the military, Robert had a successful real estate career for over 20 years.
A loving husband, dad and granddad, Robert will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. Kavanagh Jr., MD and wife, Jane, Suzanne Kavanagh, and Judy Reynolds and husband, Clay; grandchildren, Robert J. Kavanagh III, Kimberly and Amanda Kavanagh, and Wesley and Virginia Reynolds; siblings, James Kavanagh, Virginia Kavanagh, Agnes Cahir and Julie Horton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert served with Det. 6, 38th ARRS in Vietnam.
