Kerber, Grant David
Grant David Kerber
February 05, 1935 – February 21, 2020
Grant David Kerber, age 85, of Westfield NC in Stokes County, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Saviour on February 21st. Grant was born in 1935 in Myrtle Point, Oregon to Homer and Eva Kerber.
His childhood stories of growing up in the logging woods kept all who knew him captivated. He met the love of his life, Myra Marlow in high school and they were married his senior year of college at Oregon State in Corvallis Oregon.
Grant went back to his high school and taught/coached for one year before going into the Air Force to become a helicopter pilot. With two children, Barbara Ann and William “Bill” Marlow, Grant and Myra traveled the world where he was stationed as a pilot and safety officer.
With twenty years of service, and having become a “born again Christian”, he retired and went into church administration and teaching again. His influence on men and women both young and old is evident by how they lived their lives generation to generation.
His legacy was one of a “Gentle Giant” with a big heart, great love, and incredible generosity. He loved being with his family for gatherings and meals. He loved his church family and his “Tuesday Men’s Lunch”. He was part of many community church families some of which were in St. Louis, Miami, Washington DC, Tallahassee, and the last 21 years at Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston Salem, NC.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myra Marlow Kerber. They were married 55 years until her death on December 14th, 2011. Grant is also preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Eva Kerber. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Keith) Bollman and son William “Bill” (Susan) Kerber. Grant is also survived by his only sister Pat (Dan) Montague of Washington State and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Wood, along with many nephews and nieces. Grant had fourteen grandchildren, Michelle (Erik) Duncan, Amy (Joseph) Nichols, Jeremy (Michelle) Bollman, Katie (Ryan) Oelschlager, Kelly (Micah) Wilkes, Lica (Tyler) Garnett, Jamie (Luke) Lambert, Grant (Whitney) Metcalf, Charles Bollman, Marlow (John) Robinson, Carson (fiance’ Justin Rogers) Bollman, Bailey (Trevor) Johnson, Stephanie (Bart) Adkins, Stephen (Shay) Kerber and Kimberly (Cal) Beck. Grant is also survived by thirty great-grandchildren.
Grant will have a military burial with full honors at Arlington Cemetery where he will join his wife Myra Marlow Kerber.
