Charles H. King Jr., Lt. Colonel, USAF (Retired)
November 27, 1923 – August 27, 1989
Charles Henry King Jr., 65, of Valrico, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 1989) at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville.
He was born in Providence, R.I., and moved to Valrico 11 years ago from Hudson. He was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and pilot.
He was a Methodist. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1880 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Brandon.
He served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, served with the Strategic Air Command, and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Air Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Helena King; two sons, Charles Henry III, Brandon, and the Rev. Stephen J., Tampa; three stepsons, Roger True, Long Island, N.Y., James Randall True, Cocoa, and Dr. Jeffrey True, Tallahassee; and five grandchildren.

Lt. Colonel King served a Vietnam War tour as a HH-53C pilot with the 40th ARRS in the 1969-time frame.
