Michael B. Lackey, Colonel, USAF (Retired)
December 18, 1946 – February 12, 2014

Michael Lackey, age 67, passed away on February 12th, 2014. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 22 years. Mike was born on December 18th, 1946, to Winfred Lackey and Berniece (Gingerich) Lackey. Mike married Debra (Linthicum) Lackey on July 17th, 1971.

Mike was a 1971 graduate of the USAFA. He served in the AF as a helicopter pilot, fighter pilot and AWAC’s pilot. He retired as a Colonel after serving 25 years. He was also a pilot for Southwest Airlines for 11 years. Mike was the inspiration and founder of UFlyMike, LLC. Mike enjoyed building and driving race cars, working on his tractor, and playing with his grandchildren. He also loved history, traveling, and helping others.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Debbi, sons Shawn (Amanda) and Brandon (Rachel), grandchildren Cierra and Logan, his mother Berniece, and sister Karen. He was preceded in death by his father, Lt Col W W Lackey.

Services will be held at the Memorial Pavilion USAFA Cemetery on Friday, February 21st at 2pm. Reception to follow at Lackey family home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region or a Humane Society of your choice.

1st Lt. Lackey served a Vietnam War tour as a CH-53C pilot with the 21st SOS “Dust Devils” in the 1975 time frame.
