Logan, William Paul
William Paul Logan, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Retired)
April 28, 1941 – October 12, 2022
William Paul Logan, husband of 54 years to Connie Logan, father of Jennifer Ann Logan and Shannon Kay Logan, and cousin to many in Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the age of 81. He was born in Scranton, PA on April 28, 1941, and was of the Catholic faith.
The son of the late William H. and Margaret Mary Logan, William grew up in Philadelphia and was of the Catholic faith. He began attending LaSalle University in Philadelphia following high school and proudly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1963. William’s first assignment in the military was as a weapons controller; he was in charge of a small radar squadron before serving in Korea. Not long after returning from Korea, he went to pilot training at Vance AFB, OK and to B-52 school at Castle AFB, CA. In 1970, William was assigned as a helicopter pilot supporting strategic missiles and was honored to apply his expertise in serving in Saudi Arabia as a helicopter adviser to the Royal Saudi Air Force. He went on to hold several positions for the remainder of his military career to include: Executive Officer, Operation Officer, and Commander of the Rescue Detachment in support of AF Water Survival School at Homestead AFB, FL, Director of Operations of the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron at F.E. Warren AFB, WY, and finally, Chief of the Base Operations and Training Division at Robins AFB, GA. It was clear that he loved his country and serving in the military; he retired in 1988 having attained a Senior Pilot rating and the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. To boot, William furthered his education at the University of Southern California, Quinnipiac College, and the University of Wyoming, all while in the Air Force. He finally received his PhD from Georgia State University following his military retirement. At one time, he referred to his dedication to going to school as his “hobby.” William went on to pursue his passion of teaching as he taught at Middle Georgia Technical College and Middle Georgia College. He enjoyed teaching students for 20 years before retiring again.
Though he achieved so much within his careers in the military and teaching, and in his own educational endeavors, William was an extremely humble man and a generous giver always willing to give of his time. He was a history buff, especially of the Civil War, as well. Of all of his accomplishments and interests, his family was what made William the proudest. His wife and daughters were undeniably the apples of his eye.
