Merchant, Leonard B. Born March 1, 1936. Passed away February 25, 2001.

Beloved husband of Chun Suk and father of Kenny and Steve. Leonard was a loving husband, a great father and a good friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Orrin and Marjorie Merchant, and is survived by his sister Emily Smith and his brother Harry Merchant.

A native of Gloucester, Massachusetts, he has been a resident of Citrus Heights since 1976. Leonard graduated from Gloucester High School in 1953, received a BA from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Arkansas. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956, serving as a Chinese linguist, earned his commission in 1962, graduated from flight school in 1963, and retired in 1984 at the rank of Major.

He flew transport aircraft during duty tours in Northern California and Japan, and flew search and rescue helicopters in Vietnam, in England and at McClellan AFB.

Since 1986 he has worked as a real property appraiser for the Sacramento County Assessor’s office.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, March 2 at 3 p.m. at the Lind Brothers Mortuary, Carmichael Oaks Chapel, 4221 Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael.

His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any remembrances be sent to the American Cancer Society
