S/N #73-1651

MH-53J #73-1651 of the 20th SOS at Hurlburt Field, FL. crashed when it impacted a ridgeline at night during formation approach at Exercise “Elated Cyclone” near Nellis AFB, NV. Maj. Richard Brims (P) was killed in the crash. The accident report was highly classified and no other detail are available at this time.

Helicopter Crash Kills 1, injures 21

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) – An Air Force helicopter carrying Army Rangers on a training mission crashed and burned on the Nellis Air Force Base range before dawn Wednesday. Killing one serviceman and injuring 21 others.

The helicopter was carrying 15 Army soldiers and seven Air Force personnel when it crashed about 12:30 a.m., Air Force officials said.

The identity of the person killed was not released.

Fourteen of the injured were treated at the base hospital and released. Seven others were admitted, primarily for fractures, said Nellis spokesman Lt. Col. John Kuminecz.
