Thomas R. Scharf, Major, USAF (Retired)
August 26, 1933 – May 17, 2009
Thomas Raymond Scharf, passed away on May 17, 2009, at his home in Highland, CA. Tom was born in Chicago, IL.
He served in the Air Force for 25 years & retired as a Major. He was the former owner of National Orange Show Swap Meet & was instrumental in marketing concrete passive solar homes that won two first place prizes in a state competition in 1975. Tom obtained the first conditional permit for a wind farm in the Palm Springs area. In the late 1980’s he became interested in real estate & most recently in the reverse mortgage business with hundreds of clients. Tom was a member of the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce since the early 1970’s.
Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Scharf, son Ted Scharf both of Highland, CA, 2 daughters, Cynthia Scharf of Salt Lake City, UT and Gerry Castellani (Lt. Col. Michael) of Benton, LA; 2 grandchildren, Dominick & David Castellani.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday May 23, 2009, at 9:00AM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA. Staging area #1. A Memorial Service & reception will follow at 11:00AM at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92404

Capt. Scharf served in the Vietnam War as a HH-43F pilot with Det. 6, 38th ARRS in the 1969-time frame.
