Ted Schroeder, Captain, USAF (Retired)

St. George, UT – Ted Schroeder, age 72, died February 27, 2014, in St. George, UT, form illnesses related to Parkinson’s disease. He was born April 4, 1941, in Painesville, OH, to Bill and Emma Schroeder.
Ted graduated from Admiral Farragut Naval Academy in New Jersey and from the Air Force Academy in 1963. He completed a master’s degree in 1773 and a doctorate in 1974, both at Colorado State University. He completed post-doctorate work at Stanford in 1977 and MIT in 1987. He married his wife, Kathleen Sue “Susan” Hewitt, on January 23, 1965. He served as both a pilot and scientist, while living around the world during his career in the Air Force.
He loved hiking in the Pine Valley Mountains, cooking, gardening flying and his German Sheppard dogs. He spent many years performing animal rescue for displaced pets. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he enjoyed serving in many positions, in many wards. He enjoyed genealogy, indexing, temple work and baptism for the dead. He had a passion for teaching both in the church and various colleges in communities across the globe. This passion was fueled by his constant pursuit of knowledge, often reading several books at one time. He was instrumental in the creation of a computer network for the Royal Saudi Air Force after the second Gulf War.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Ty (Kellie); daughter, Tara; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Teddy, Lucas, Ty Jr., Robbie, Ryan, Sandra and Krystal. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. A private memorial service was held per his request.

Capt. Ted Schroeder served in the Vietnam War as a HH-43F pilot with Det. 3, 38th ARRS in the 1967-time frame.
