From: Cody Lucas Shirley. – Recently I lost my grandfather. He was one hell of an amazing man and one hell of a Jolly Green he served his country and although he didn’t talk much about it, he was proud, and he retired from the USAF as Chief Master Sergeant in 1982. RIP my grandfather you will be miss love you. I thought it would be great to share this with everyone.

Known information about CMSgt. Melvin W. Shirley Jr. – Melvin is known to have served in the Vietnam War with the USAF 20th Helicopter Sq., “Pony Express”, as a CH-3C/E Flight Engineer. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf.

He had retired too and was living in Newfoundland at the time of his passing.
