Matthew Alan Trim, USAF
September 22, 1975 – June 29, 2018
Matthew Alan Trim of Kalamazoo passed from this life unexpectedly on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Matt was born September 22, 1975 in Sturgis, Michigan. He grew up in Kalamazoo and attended Gull Lake Schools.
In 1993 Matt enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served with the 21st Special Operations Squadron, and the 20th Special Operations Squadron as an Aerial Gunner, he was honorably discharged in 2003.
Matt earned a Bachelor’s of Divinity degree and for a time served as a Pastor of the Rocky Ford Baptist Church in Rocky Ford, Georgia. He later returned to Michigan, settling again in the Kalamazoo area where he worked for CLM-VibeTech then HEFG (High Energy Finishing Group) where he was greatly appreciated for his character and strong work ethic. Several years ago he moved on to start his own company, Legacy Home Improvements, which he operated until his passing.
Of all his accomplishments in life, Matt would certainly point to his children as his greatest source of pride. His three children, Samantha, Lane and Josie were the center of his universe. He looked forward to, and rarely missed a sporting event in which each of the kids had played. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with those he loved, hunting and fishing whenever possible.
As a combat veteran, and no stranger to the lasting effects of Post-Traumatic Stress, Matt was always there to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement to any of his brothers in arms whenever possible.
Matt is survived by his three wonderful kids, Samantha, Lane and Josie of Kalamazoo and by his parents Lee & Helen Trim of Petoskey and Julie & Keith Hewitt of Kalamazoo. He is also survived by his loving fiancé Rachel Holzworth and her sons, Nyle and Brady; by his former wife and friend, Leah Trim and by his sisters and brothers, Shelly Boulter, Becky Nelson, Keith Hewitt Jr., Penny Snyder, Joy Gillis and Terry Kilmer and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Matt’s life will be remembered, honored and celebrated during a memorial gathering that is planned for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 50850 Cable Park Rd., Dowagiac, MI 49047.
He was loved and his presence in the lives of those he loved will be greatly missed.
