HELICOPTER CRASH KILLS FATAL TO THREE NEW YORK AIRMEN
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AP) — Three New York airmen stationed at Eglin Air Force Base were killed Thursday night when a helicopter crashed during a training flight.
The Air Force identified the victums as Capt. Rollin T. Wheat, 28, Clifton Springs, N.Y., pilot: 1st Lt. Michael F. Sullivan, 25, North Tarrytown, N.Y., copilot, and SSgt. James E. Armenia, 25, Staten Island, N.Y., crew chief.
Search operations began when the UH-1F helicopter failed to return from the mission. The wreckage was fournd a short time later on the Air Force reservation, near Niceville.
The Air Force was investigation the cause of the crash.
Helicopter pilots for the war in Vietnam are trained at Eglin.
