Injured Pilot, Hobsan’s Kin, Now Recovering

Mrs.  Howell Grimes, 401 West Snyder, has been notified that her cousin, Maj. Hoyt Bertram Mayes, USAF, who was critically injured in a helicopter accident in Hawaii two weeks ago, is showing signs of recovery.

Major Mayes, engaged in an aerial search for a missing man, was piloting a helicopter which hooked a wire and fell into a river. The impact paralyzed his whole body, but a medical search and rescue team on the river reached him almost immediately, and save his life.

His parents, who live in Shreveport, LA., have learned that he has improved to the extent that he now has paralysis in only one side of his body, and that his eventual recovery is predicted.
