Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Patriot

Philip ‘Phil’ Elwin White, 80, passed away from an unexpected fall at his home on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, at North Davis Hospital, Layton Utah. He was born on October 21, 1941, in Houlton, Maine to Elwyn Burke White and Rose Marie Deroshier. He was the oldest son of 5 children.

Phil’s school years were spent entirely in Maine. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1958 and worked at the “Maine Salt Company” in Bangor. This is where he met his future wife, the loving and adoring Judith Niles. They had 6 children together and were happily married for over 55 years until her passing in 2017.

At the age of 17 Phil joined the Airforce and his first assignment was at Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine. During Phil’s military career he proudly served as a Crew Chief for Air Rescue traveling the world.  Phil was stationed at multiple bases in Texas, Alaska, North Dakota, Florida, Panama, Florida again, Utah, Saudi Arabia, and he also served 2 tours in Vietnam. Utah is where Phil finally retired after 31 years of military service, he continued working with the government for another 24 years. Phil managed Hill AFB Aero Club for many years and was a long-time member of the Ogden Aero Club. After his first retirement, for fun, Phil chose to drive school bus for a short time because he really adored the kids.

Phil loved the adventurous nature of the James Bond films, and his life reflected it. Phil was very active and outgoing, he enjoyed motor cycling and the open road. He was a lifelong pilot, traveling many places with Judy. He also enjoyed sky diving, scuba diving, hang gliding, jet skiing, snowmobiling, camping, going to the dunes, and family get-togethers.

Phil is survived by his new life partner of 5 years, Jackie Reyna; His siblings: Patsy, Joe, and Delvin; Children: Kathie Meeler, Eric (Kelly) White, Mark (Michelle) White, Adam (Teena) White, Troy (Alicia) White; Grandkids: Natasha (Sean) Rowland, Chad (Haley) Meeler, Aubri White, Cody (Madi) White, Madison White, Blayke White, Braxton White, Jerzie White, Lucas Stewart, Colin Stewart; Great-grandkids: Malayia Dawne and Ella White.

Preceded in death by; His parents, Elwyn and Rose White; sister, Betty Hammond; son, Scot; wife, Judy; and son-in-law, Charlie.

Phil will be remembered for the love he had for his family, spice for life, and his adventuress spirit. P.S. Phil was always quick with a comment, whether you wanted it or not, and a swift kick in the butt, if needed! Funeral Services will be held at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road Layton, Utah on Friday, April 22, 2022. Viewing will be from 9:30-10:30am with the service beginning at 11am. Internment and final resting place will be at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park 100 N Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah where military honors will be accorded.
