Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. at a Memorial Mass in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Carr Lane Wilkerson, (age 85), who passed away on October 6 at 7:40 a.m. at Lafayette General Hospital. Internment will be in St. John Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum I.
The Very Reverend Chester C. Arceneaux, VF, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the services. Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will serve as Con Celebrant. Musical selections will be “How Great Thou Art,” “One Bread, One Body”, “On Eagles’ Wings” and “Amazing Grace”, performed by Tom Niel, Cathedral Organist.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Marella Stoute Wilkerson, of Lafayette: two sons, Carr Lane Wilkerson, Jr. of Lafayette; Gifford Damian Wilkerson and his wife Julie Kitto of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Charlotte Wilkerson Gajewski of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren, Cecilia, Hayden, Kyle and Lillian Wilkerson; and Brianna and Carson Gajewski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Hazel Dunn Wilkerson; one grandson, Damian Todd Gajewski; and a brother, Claude Dan Wilkerson.
Born January 6, 1932 in Alexandria, he graduated from Bolton High School in 1948, and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in Geology in 1953. He was a U.S. Air Force Pilot from 1953-1958 rated in mulit-engine fixed wing and helicopter instrument rated.
He was enrolled in the LSU Geology Graduate School from 1958-59. He came to Lafayette in 1959 and worked for Shell Oil Company in the Exploration Department. He was employed by Trans-Asia Engineering between 1962 to 1966 as Manager of its Korean and Philippine offices. In 1966, he co-founded multiple export oriented companies in San Francisco, CA. After retiring in 1982, he returned with his family to Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the Msgr. Bodin Cemetery Endowment or the charity of your choice. Honorary pallbearers are Carr Lane Wilkerson, Jr., Gifford and Julie Wilkerson, Charlotte Wilkerson Gajewski, Fred Stoute, Ralph Willis, Carl Richard and Lewis O. Lauve.
