Joseph E. Zeleznick, a longtime resident of Aston, died peacefully on March 28, 2023, at Sunrise of Granite Run Senior Living, Media, PA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Bernadette (Bonnie) nee Borgese.

He is predeceased in death by his parents George and Margaret Zeleznick. Joe was born in Bellefonte, PA, on October 14, 1937, and was a 1955 graduate of Chester High School.

He served in the armed forces for nine and a half years as a communications specialist in the U.S. Army and as a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Air force. He proudly served in Italy, Newfoundland, and in the U.S.A.

Joe retired from Sun Oil in Marcus Hook, PA, in 1992 after 26 years as a pipe-fitter and as a member of the union negotiating team. He was a member of the local Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-7. He taught boating safety and was a vessel examiner for many years. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an antique car enthusiast. Throughout the years Joe owned and displayed many different makes of antique and classic cars. He was an avid walker and walked five to six miles every day. Joe and Bonnie travelled on many cruises, and they especially loved the Caribbean Islands.

Joe is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marianne (Frank) Bogucki of Swarthmore, Jolene Borgese of West Chester, and Sharon (Jim) Gordon of Hendersonville, NC; his brother-in-law, Tom (Terri) Borgese of Swarthmore; his three nieces, Bridget of Swarthmore, Kerri of San Francisco, CA and Molly of Philadelphia; and special cousins Dina, Steven, and Louis Scattolini of Ridley Park. Joe is also survived by his sister Dolores Lizotte of Aston, his nephew William Pattie of Crum Lynne, and his niece Sherry Rottenberk of Brookhaven.

The family is grateful and appreciative to the Sunrise Administrators, Nurses, Med Techs, and Care Managers who provided such a warm and caring environment for Joe. We are especially thankful to Donna, Nicole, Dawn, Meghan, Laderika, Earlene and Netisha. Words cannot express the joy they all brought to Joe and the peace of mind experienced by his family. Special thanks to Lead Care Manager and Med Tech Doreen in the REM unit who helped Joe so much, and to Nurse Irene from Caring Hospice, as well as to Dr. Susan Lippman.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Joe’s life and a luncheon on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 11:30 to 2:30 at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road Springfield, PA 19064.
