Robert “Bob” Reid, Colonel, USAF (Retired)
October 28, 1933 – December 16, 2015

Colonel Robert “Bob” Reid U.S.A.F. Ret., 82, of Washington, Virginia passed away at his residence on December 16, 2015 after an extended illness.

Col. Reid was born on October 28, 1933 in Fairfax County, Virginia, to Clarence E. and Sadie Maye Reid.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957 where he trained as a Jet pilot; in 1967 he furthered his training flying helicopters, in Vietnam. While in the Air Force he continued his education and received a Master’s Degree in business. Toward the end of his Military Career he served as Director of Programs and Budget and later Commander Deputy Auditor General for the Pentagon.

Col. Reid earned numerous medals during his 27 year career in the Air Force, those include it’s Distinguished Flying Cross, AF Presidential Unit Citation, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

After Retirement Col. Reid worked as a professor, teaching Accounting Principles at Germanna Community College, he established the Tri County Track Meet in Madison Virginia, was a member of the Brightwood Ruritan Club, and a devoted parishioner of Open Door Baptist Church.

Col Reid is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary E Reid, his son Randall A Reid of Upland California, Three Step-daughters, Audrey Regnery of Washington, Virginia, Beverley Shepherd of Madison, Virginia, and Alane Walsh of Pittston, Maine, two grandchildren, Danny Reid and Carley Reid of Upland, California, four step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren, siblings Clarence Reid of Palatka, Florida, Beulah Wilson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and James Reid of Ashburn, Virginia. Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence E Reid and Sadie May Reid; a sister, Betty Gerino; and two sons Russell C. Reid and Robert E Reid.

A loving husband and father, dedicated to his country, community, family, and church, Col. Reid, lived his life trusting and loving the Lord. He was a soft spoken man, a lover of sports, and always gave a helping hand to those in need.

Services will be held at Open Door Baptist Church in Culpeper, Virginia on Wednesday December 23rd at 10:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Internment will immediately follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Honor Guard of the V.F.W. Post 2524. Pallbearers will be Alfred Regnery, Paul Shepherd, Thomas Walsh, Christopher Field, Stephen Field, and CJ Field.

The family would like to express its gratitude to the Hospice of the Piedmont for the loving care that was given to Col. Reid and his family during his illness.

I will always hold fond memories of this man. Thank you Bob for your friendship and your encouragement over the years. We will miss you brother until we meet again on the other side. Your brother in the Lord.
