Charles Herrmann

Charles was stationed at NKP with the 21st Special Operations Squadron from July 1968 thru June 1969……flying the CH-3E’s. For a good bit of the time his crew included Captain Sam Culp, co-pilot with SSgt James Moore and TSgt Donald Cramer as the flight engineers (and hoist operators and gunners). Charles says “It was a “great” crew in my estimation……and one reason why I survived my tour.”

My helicopter assignments included:

1958 – 1961, at Tyndall AFB , Panama City, FL. with the 4756th Drone Squadron on H-21’s, recovering Firebee drones from the Gulf of Mexico.

1961 – 1964, at Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, Alaska with the 5010th Air Base Wing on H-21’s for search and rescue.

1964 – 1965, at Lowry AFB, Denver, CO. with Lowry Tech Training Center on H-21’s for Titan missile site support.

1965 – 1968, at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX. with the 3637th Flying Training Squadron Pilot Training School as Chief, Pilot Instructor H-19/CH-3 Training (USAF Helicopter).

1968 – 1969, at Nakhon Phanom RTAFB, Thailand with the 21st SOS on CH-3E’s.

1969 – 1970, at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX., CH-3, Chief, Pilot Instructor Training (USAF Helicopter 3637th Flying Training Squadron Pilot Training School).

1970 – 1971, at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX., CH-3, Chief, Stan/Eval (USAF Helicopter Pilot Training 3637th Flying Training Squadron School).
