Arthur Lee Honaker, Sr., USAF & Army National Guard (Retired)
June 30, 1940 – September 19, 2023

Arthur Lee Honaker Sr, 83 of Pax, WV formerly of St Albans, WV crossed over Jordan on September 19th, 2023, surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born June 30th, 1940, in Mallory, WV to Slemp and Virginia Honaker. Arthur enjoyed fishing, civil war reenacting, playing music on many different instruments, coin collecting, working and gardening around his property, and tinkering in his workshop.

Arthur served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1957-1969, and in the Army National Guard from 1976-1989. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving with the 20th Special Operations Squadron “The Green Hornets” during his year tour in 1967-1968 as a crew chief, mechanic, and door gunner on the UH-1 Huey Iroquois helicopter. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired from FMC/Great Lakes Chemical Corp in 2002. He was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in St. Albans, WV. Arthur had been a member of Co G “White Sulphur Rifles” 26th Battalion Virginia Infantry Reenactment Group.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Donald Ray, George Harmon, Larry Richard, and Slemp “Pete” Jr., sisters Gloria Jean Honaker, and Carolyn Faye Honaker, daughter Pamela Lea.

Those left behind to forever hold and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years Janet, sister Linda Langley of VA, sons Arthur Jr. (Sherry) of TN, Roy (Nadia) Republic of Panama, Scott (Tara) of Poca, WV, daughter Tina (James) Williams of Pax, WV, twelve grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratefulness to the VA Clinic in Charleston, WV, CAMC Cancer Center, the Hershel Woody Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV, Hospice of Southern WV, and the many nurses, doctors, and medical personnel who showed great compassion and care to Arthur and the family during this difficult time. A funeral service with full military honors will take place for Arthur on Saturday September 23, 2023, at 1:00PM. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Pax Community Cemetery in Pax, WV. Pall-Bearers will be Arthur’s Grandsons.
