Carroll Clifford Rands, USAF (Retired)

Carroll Clifford Rands, age 87, originally from Wisconsin, passed away January 1, 2021 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Carroll C Rands was born December 31, 1933 in Norwalk, Wisconsin. After college he pursued a career with the United States Air Force where he served his country honorably for over 22 years.

His bravery during the Vietnam War flying UH-1P helicopters earned him 3 distinguished flying crosses and 9 air medals. He retired from the Air Force in 1977 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He had a second career with Aid Association for Lutherans selling insurance.

Throughout his life he continued to fly numerous types of aircraft recreationally. In 2014, the Federal Aviation Administration recognized Carroll with the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” award.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years. Shirley Ann Rands, his son, Greg (Amy) Rands and one granddaughter, all in Fort Wayne, IN.

He is also survived by a brother, Larry (Sonja) Rands of Colorado, a half-sister, nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Mark.

Due to Covid 19, no services will be held. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.
