Didn’t know Kelly personally, but he was the backbone of our profession, keeping us out of trouble and in the air. It is because of men like him that I am alive today. May he rest in peace with the Honor he deserves.

I was stationed with Kelly at Otis AFB in Massachusetts in the late fifties/early sixties. It’s sad to lose one of one’s contemporaries. Hey Kelly, I bet there are no engine failures where you are now. Isn’t it great to reach a place where you can be a gruff old curmudgeon like us and nobody cares?

I wanted to send my condolences to Pat and my cousins Steve, Rick and Shirley and the entire family. Uncle Kelly (The Gov’nor) was my father’s best friend. I’d hear them talking on the phone for hours about anything and everything. I feel we are all better people for the opportunity of having him apart of our lives. He was a Veteran. A hero. And a great man. I miss you very much Uncle Kelly. With Love, William S. Day

I am truly sorry that I was TDY and unable to visit Kelly. I worked with him for six years in the C-130J SPO and he was always very pleasant to be around. When he said that he was going to cut his hair I told him that he shouldn’t; that most women would kill for a head of hair like his; he told me I sounded like Pat. Everyone will miss him but no one would wish him back to endure the pain that he was having.

I’m grateful for the opportunity I had to work with Kelly. Although he seemed like a crusty gruff Air Force retiree when I first met him, I soon came to know the “real” Kelly. He frequently stopped by our work area to say, “Hi…” and grace us with his charm, sarcasm and wit! It was obvious that Kelly was loyal and dedicated to serving his country, and willing to help his fellow co-workers both inside and outside the office environment. Kelly made the world a better place through service, sacrifice, love, friendship…hopefully we’ll follow Kelly’s example and perpetuate a positive influence throughout our lives as well. My thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace are for Kelly and his family…

I will always cherish the opportunity to have worked with him in the C130J office over my few short years there. He was a true gentleman and professional, that always went out of his way to help. Kelly, thank-you for being part of my extended American family – you treated me like one of your own. May God bless your family.

Kelly touched lives in a positive way everywhere he went. He is my hero, my brother, and my friend. Though he is now with God, he will never leave the hearts of those who knew him. He served his country with honor as a patriot, fighting for freedom and democracy for all. He served his family and friends with the same unselfish love and dedication that motivated his career. He will be missed by everyone.
